Research

The goal of this website is to help everyone who is researching the following surnames: Ohlhauser, Wohl, Kiemele, Schlecht, Gross, Hofer, Wipf, Tschetter and all other surnames that married into these families.

The Ohlhauser families (Lutheran faith) originated in Germany, then migrated to Hungary, then South Russia, and finally to the United States and Canada.

The Wohl families (Lutheran faith), I believe, originated in Germany, then migrated to either Hungary or Prussia (still searching for records to confirm this), then on to South Russia, and finally to the United States.

The Gross/Tschetter families (Hutterite/Mennonite faith), I believe, originated in South Tyrol (then Austria, now Italy). They moved around more than the Ohlhauser/Wohl ancestors, settling in Moravia, Slovakia, Romania, Transylvania, Russia (now Ukraine) and then to the United States and Canada.

The Kiemele families came from Taherroth, Würtemburg, Germany. The Schlecht ancestors came from either Germany, Hungary, or Poland before arriving in South Russia in the early 1800s but more research is required to confirm this.

I have spent the last 10 years researching my ancestors extensively in South Russia. I hope the information on this website will inspire you to learn more about your ancestors. And please share what you learn with other family members by contributing to this site.
